I’m a strong, empathetic, and compassionate man that is empowering other men to live a life of fulfillment.
I see the beauty in imperfection and opportunities in failures. I see the power to change in everyone and I help men reclaim that power for themselves. I’ve spent my career helping underserved communities in Northern California make safer and healthier choices for their life. And I’m going to spend the rest of my life empowering men to step into their truth. I create safe spaces for men to think deeply about themselves and stand authentically.
I graduated from San Jose State University with a B.A. in Education and Teaching. I’ve trained with Lincoln Center Education in New York as a Teaching Artist. And I’m a Certified Professional Co-Active Coach (CPCC). In my career I’ve facilitated over 1,000 workshops about empathy and inclusivity with an emphasis on positive conflict resolution. I've educated over 500k community members all over Northern California. And in October 2017 I gave my first TEDx Talk.
I'm the founder of The Authentic Man, a men's retreat for self-identified males that want to live with purpose and intention.
My work is focused in helping men see what they are capable of by asking powerful questions. And by challenging them to be their best selves--which sometimes means calling them out on their B.S. Imagine me being like your best friend--I will love you and see you without judgement, but I will hold you accountable for what you say you're going to do.
I am not a therapist or psychiatrist. I am not a counselor or consultant.
I am a coach.
Men are full of possibilities and have limitless power. But I'm not going to fix you. That's not my job. We will work on your life together, but you will make choices that will serve you and your purpose.
I use mindfulness and self-awareness techniques to help men objectify their feelings. And I am next to them the entire process.
I’m human. Sometimes I forget to love myself. I'm not perfect. And that's normal. Like many people, I can be really hard and critical to myself. And sometimes I feel like I’m not good enough. I’m a recovering people pleaser and I used to have a hard time saying ‘no’ to people and things that don’t serve me. But through time, practice, and breathing I’ve learned to control my thoughts and build a healthier relationship with being authentically Mike.
I am also unapologetically myself. I love life and people fiercely. And I’m passionate about helping men live in authenticity and a life of purpose. After years and years of reconditioning and learning to love myself, I can proudly say that I am a gay man of color!
